Botox Cosmetic
Botox, a bacterial product, is useful for limiting
the activity of certain overactive facial
muscles which lead to unwanted deep wrinkles.
Originally used for the treatment of crossed eyes,
Botox is now used for limiting the action of muscles
of the face which cause frown lines of the nose and
forehead, crows foot lines, and wrinkles around the
mouth. The mechanism of action is reversible
weakness of targeted muscles. The injections are
relatively painless, when done slowly, and show
their effect within 7 days, lasting 4-6 months in
most patients. Botox in the small doses used for
cosmetic muscle relaxation is very safe, and
effective. Side effects are minimal, and
complications, such as allergic reactions, are rare.
When Botox is used on specific muscles around the
eyes, and over the lower forehead, the results can
mimic the results of a brow lift in patients without
marked excess skin.
Wrinkle Fillers
In young skin, the collagen framework is intact and
the skin remains moist and elastic, resilient to the
many facial expressions we adopt, as well as to
everyday wear and tear. But over time the support
structure weakens and the skin loses its elasticity.
The skin begins to lose its tone as the collagen
support wears down. Every time you smile, frown or
squint, you put stress on the collagen in your skin.
The effect of these facial depressions is
cumulative, and facial lines begin to appear.
Not all of the unwelcome lines on your face come
from muscle movement. Wrinkle fillers injections may
be used in combination with Botox Cosmetic to
provide effective, immediate correction with little
to no downtime.
Restylane / Juvederm are FDA approved dermal fillers
that restore volume and fullness to correct
moderately severe facial wrinkles and folds. Made of
hyaluronic acid, a natural componet of your skin and
soft tissues, these filler doses are customized
according to the depth and location of desired
injected in conjuction with Botox Cosmetic.
Radiesse is a FDA approved treatment well suited for
deep facial wrinkles. Made of unique calcium-based
microspheres that form a support and stimulate the
growth of your own collagen. Radiesse rebuilds your
skin's foundation.
Collagen Replacement Therapy has been used for
decades to smooth superficial to moderate depth
facial lines and wrinkles. A variety of products are
available depending on your individual needs,
including CosmoDerm, CosmoPlast, Zyderm and Zyplast.
Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast are injectable products
made from human collagen grown under a controlled
laboratory environment. Zyderm and Zyplast are
derived from bovine sources and require skin testing
for allergic reactions prior to injection. All
products can be injected just below the surface of
the skin, filling in unwanted lines and wrinkles,
and can also be used to add definition to the lip
borders.
